Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that his side will be without the services of Kieran Gibbs and Theo Walcott for the game at the Emirates on New Year’s Day.
The Gunners face-off against Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon in what is a must-win game for their hopes of challenging for the Premier League title.
While speaking to reporters, the Gunners boss revealed that there is good news and bad news with regards to injuries to his players.
German international Shkodran Mustafi is back into the first-team after having overcome a hamstring problem, but Kieran Gibbs (knee) and Theo Walcott (calf) are still unfit for the clash in South London on Sunday.
“I don’t think Kieran Gibbs will be available. Apart from that Mustafi is fit again and we have one or two uncertainties,” he was quoted as saying on the club’s official website. “Gibbs has a knee problem and Walcott has a calf problem, short term, I don’t think he will available this week.
Wenger also added that long-term absentee Danny Welbeck has progressed well in training, and he could be on the substitutes’ bench on Sunday.
He said: “Welbeck is fit and sharp. He is in training and he looks quite good.”
Arsenal are currently nine points behind league leaders Chelsea.
