Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is keeping a close eye on the situation of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier. The England international is slightly concerned over his first-team role at White Hart Lane.
The 22-year-old has started 11 of his side’s games in the top flight this term but was left out of last weekend’s defeat at Manchester United with Mauricio Pochettino preferring Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele in central midfield.
Dier had been featuring as a centre-back during Toby Alderweireld’s absence through injury, but as soon as the Belgian was up to full fitness, he lost his place.
According to The Times, the 22-year-old is worried about his reduced role at the North London giants as this would affect his chances of earning a spot with the Three Lions.
Blues head coach Conte is said to be on the search for a versatile player, who could contribute in both midfield and defence and Dier is one among his top targets for the upcoming transfer window.
The former Sporting Lisbon is set to retain his place against Hull City in midweek owing to Dembele’s foot injury, and he will be in no hurry to make a decision midway through the league campaign.
Apart from the Blues, German champions Bayern Munich have also been credited with interest for the former Everton graduate.
