West Ham United are prepared to test Chelsea’s resolve in the New Year with an initial loan attempt for Michy Batshuayi. The Belgian striker has not started a league game for the Blues this season.
Batshuayi, 23, had been the subject of strong interest from Crystal Palace and West Ham United in the summer before he opted to join the Blues from Marseille on a £33m deal.
Since then, the Belgian footballer has been no more than a regular on the substitutes’ bench with his two starts coming in the EFL Cup where the Blues were eliminated in the round of 16.
According to The Sun, Slaven Bilic’s side will retain their interest in Batshuayi in January as they seek to bring in a marquee forward to their ranks.
The Hammers are said to be on a tight budget for the winter transfer window, and will most probably propose a short-term loan with the obligation to buy in the summer.
Batshuayi could earn his first league start for Chelsea on Boxing Day with Diego Costa banned for the Bournemouth clash after attaining five yellow cards.
