Real Madrid are prepared to lodge a tempting offer for Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho, should James Rodriguez leave the Bernabeu in the future.
Rodriguez had been the subject of interest from Chelsea and Inter Milan in the summer, but none of the two came close to Real Madrid’s £60m valuation. The Colombian has since earned a regular run in the first-team squad but this has not deterred his desire to pursue a challenge elsewhere.
According to Diario Gol, Los Blancos have identified Coutinho as a possible replacement for Rodriguez, who is seemingly frustrated at not being the main man at the Capital outfit.
The Brazil international has been in stunning form for the Reds since the start of the campaign, and his goals have guided the Merseysiders to the top of the Premier League summit.
The European champions are currently under a transfer embargo until January 2018, but it is predicted that they will appeal against their ban with the hope doing some business in the summer of 2017.
Coutinho has netted five league goals for Jurgen Klopp’s side, who hold a slender one-point lead over second-placed Chelsea in the league.
