Manchester United are reportedly deemed favourites to re-sign Burnley defender Michael Keane in the New Year. The centre-half has been in impressive form for the Clarets this season, and this has earned him his second England call-up in as many months.
Keane failed to make himself a regular at Old Trafford, and was sent out on loan spells to Leicester City, Derby County and Blackburn Rovers between 2012 and 2014.
It was then Burnley came forward for his services with a temporary deal in September 2014, where after impressing, he earned himself a permanent contract in January 2015.
The Independent claims that the Red Devils are frontrunners to land their former graduate with odds being slashed to 5-1. Premier League leaders Liverpool are the other in the running for the central defender at 10-1.
Manchester United have had their injury troubles at the back this season with Antonio Valencia and Eric Bailly being lengthy absentees. Meanwhile, Chris Smalling and Luke Shaw have looked off colour for much of the campaign, and there is the need to add a quality defender.
Keane was sold off for a mere £2.5m in 2015, but United are unlikely to hesitate to pay 10 times the figure if they are to solve their troubles at the back this season.
Jose Mourinho was forced to name a completely fresh backline at Swansea City over the weekend with Ashley Young, Phil Jones, Marcus Rojo, and Matteo Darmian filling the ranks.
